Flip Flops and starry nights...

It’s gloriously that time of year again. Officially summertime – or as I like to call it: New England’s Freedom. There’s something about those first 90 degree days that really perks up the people around here. Knowing that the freezing air, winter coats & mounds of snow are far behind us brings a sense of relief to everyone.

The excitement wafts around at the thought of endless possibilities. No more cozy nights in front of a movie, slightly bored out of your mind - daydreaming of the beach, cookouts, amusement parks and carnivals. No, the time is here. We have two and a half months of uncomfortable heat to bask in. Two and a half months to get that perfect tan that will fade just in time for the cool air to come back. The time of year that you diet for all year long and then get to drink and eat it all back from cookout after cookout. The burgers, the dogs, the beach, the fireworks – it’s what we yearn for from that first dreaded day of winter.

Day trips to the beach or zoo with family, night trips to Plymouth for ice cream. Time at Castle Island because no one can resist going to Sully’s at least once in the summer. For those not stuck here year round, even time down the Cape for a close-to-home escape of reality.

I’ve been to California and experienced the gorgeous weather, the fun atmosphere and the excitement around every corner but I’d never give up our New England summers. It may be because of our New England winters, but those awful six months of snow and cold make the summertime here that much more exciting.

So enjoy the sun – because it’s time for flip flops & starry nights.

…and I’ve already got my flip flops on.
