Elmo: My Saving Grace...

What is it about that little furry red puppet that gets a child so excited? Is it the whiney voice, the oversized eyes or mere fact that he sings about a crayon and fish? Whatever it is - I bow down to you, Elmo creator.

It is thanks to you that I get time to take care of "mommy things". Thanks to that obnoxious giggle and ability to get a child to zone in to him and him alone, I get to take a total of 20 minutes (because god forbid Sesame Street put Elmo in a WHOLE episode) to work out and shower. Those 20 minutes are sometimes what I so look forward to at night. Although more often than not, they are spent washing dishing, preparing lunch for the following day, doing laundry and NOT getting my relaxing shower...

The fact that Elmo can help on the fussy nights where Liam just doesn't want to give in and sleep, well that's a miracle. I click play on ON Demand, or pop in one of the many Elmo dvd's we've purchased already in his short life, and just like that - Liam flaps his hands up and down, kicking his feet, and his eyes don't move from the screen.

When he wakes up on those rare nights at 3am screaming as we wait in bed for Chris to bring him a fresh bottle - the only thing that stops the tears is when Mommy sings "La La La La, La La La La, Elmo's World." Just like that - the arms flail around again, being sure to smash me in the face a few times. :)

Be sure that anytime we go to a store that has any semblance of Elmo, we are making sure it comes home with us. As an avid Sesame Street supporter, I thank you Elmo for giving me the small dose of sanctuary every evening by entertaining my little man. You, truly are my saving grace! :)

  1. OH they make Elmo whole episode DVD's. My kid thankfully wasn't into Sesame Street or Elmo as a wee one.

I was subjected to ad nausea repeats of Bob the Builder (can I fix it, yes I can).
